/nəˈmänik/
noun
a device such as a pattern of letters, ideas, or associations that assists in remembering something.
As part of the MICA Grad Show 2020, students of the Graphic Design MA program first assembled a series of physical artifacts under the theme of Mnemonic. These creations were amalgamations of personal and communal memories. From explorations of black vernacular, chronic illness and care, chinese night markets, music as memory, handwriting as thinking, pizza communities, TCK experiences, and more, these projects explore intersections between the individual and a larger collective. After the global pandemic COVID-19 began spreading in the U.S., these mnemonic artifacts became fragments existing in a digital space. This virtual exhibition presents an alternate way to bring them together in a complete form.
